In 2020 it is expected that there will be about 350 billion mobile app downloads which is set to generate about $200 billion in revenue! Apple's App Store and Google Play store are still the leaders in the number of app downloads. Startup companies want to know exactly how long it take to create a mobile app. Unfortunately there is not a correct answer. All the apps are created for different use, so the time it takes to create one app, another app might take longer. But we have good news! We can give you examples on the most popular apps that were created, so you can use those for a guideline.
It takes about 4-5 months to completely develop a mobile app. A survey by Kinsey (Source) asked about 100 mobile app developers how long it would take to build the main parts of a version 1 app (iOS or Android). After they averaged the results they came up with an estimated time frame of 18 weeks which levels out to be about 5 months.
Here are some fun facts:
Instagram and Uber apps took about 4.5-5.5 months to create
WhatsApp took about 4.5 months to create
Tinder and Periscope took about 4 months
At the end, it all comes down to how well you have everything planned out. Once you’ve done your research and you have the blueprints laid out, things will start moving rather quickly! Innovi Mobile can help
